Poynt: it was love at first "click"
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 12:55PM Look, I'm as big of a sucker as the next guy for the latest and greatest mobile "apps," but I do have a confession to make: more often than not, I sign up for applications like Four Square and, when someone asks me questions about the intricacies of how it works, I'm stumped. Just last night, for example, as Ceci and I sat down to dinner at Macao Trading Co., I completely interrupted our conversation in order to "check in" (to the restaurant) on Four Square. "Why do you 'have' to check in on Four Square?" Ceci asked, "Do you get points towards something?" Both of the questions she posed were legit but, to be completely honest, I couldn't answer either one. Instead, I changed the subject. "So, tell me girl, is there anything new and exciting going on in your love life?"
Twitter is a great sounding/self-promotion board - Four Square blasts all of my "check ins" to both my Twitter and Facebook accounts - but, prior to discovering Poynt, I had not come across another mobile "app" of its kind. You know, one that was brilliantly useful and user-friendly? In a nutshell, Poynt gives you the option to search for the information you need (businesses, retailers, movie listings, etc.) - when and where you need it - from wherever you may be (home, travel, work, on-the-go, etc.). So, for example, let's say that I'm standing on the corner of 33rd Street and 3rd Avenue, which is located within the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. It's lunch time - I'm starving - and I know more about the restaurant scene in Pine Bluff, AK than I do about the very one that I'm standing in. Good thing I have Poynt downloaded to my BlackBerry! With its GPS functionality, the application already knows where my feet are planted at that very moment. Now, all I need to do is click on the "restaurants" icon, and figure out just what it is that I'm hungry for! Same goes if I happen to be searching for local movies, weather, gas prices, maps, businesses, and people. What a great tool to have for my upcoming travels!
