Recipe: Homemade Pizza Sauce

Below, you will find a recipe for pizza sauce that’s super easy to make and incredibly flavorful and robust. After all, why spend money on buying someone else’s when you can make your own?

Ingredients

(Makes enough sauce for two Crisp & Buttery Pan Pizzas OR at least one 12-14-inch pie)

  • 1/2 T EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 14.5-ounce can crushed tomatoes (I prefer the Italian San Marzano variety)

  • 1/3 c broth (chicken or vegetable)

  • 1/2 t dried oregano

  • 1/2 t dried basil

  • 1 t salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • Optional: 3 T fresh basil chiffonade

Method

  1. In a saucepan, add oil and allow to get warm over medium-high heat

  2. Add garlic and saute for 30 seconds (you don’t want the garlic to get brown and toasty)

  3. Add remainder of ingredients up to the optional basil chiffonade and bring to a boil

  4. Cover and simmer on low for 30 minutes

  5. Remove from heat and season to taste

  6. Optional: When room temperature, add basil chiffonade
