Anytime I come to Houston, Pappas Seafood House is a *must* visit.  From the old school digs and friendly, knowledgeable staff (shout-out to Brandon, the bar tender) - to the excellent regional cuisine, it's one of my favorites in town.

Shrimp po’boy

For a 'less diet friendly' entree, do not miss the shrimp po'boy, which is the best I've tasted.  The fresh French loaf is both chewy and crusty, and the bite-sized crustaceans are enveloped in a crunchy batter that really holds its own against the damp lettuce and tomatoes, plus cocktail and tartar sauces.  And those insane Parmesan fries which accompany the sandwich?  Second to none!

Seafood gumbo

A menu item that I feel much less guilty about ordering is a bowl of the seafood gumbo, which arrives chock-full of Gulf shrimp, oysters, and crab meat.  The broth is thinner than some of the other versions around town (I see you, Goode Co. Seafood!), but it's much more rich and smokey.

Don't miss the homemade key lime pie for dessert!
